A season ago, the Racers and Tigers had three memorable games all within a little more than four weeks that all went down to the wire. The first (Feb. 9, 2012) saw TSU end MSU's unbeaten streak to start the season at 23 straight in a 72-68 final. MSU was the final undefeated team in the nation at the time. MSU won the second meeting (Feb. 23, 2012) at TSU in the final week of the regular season 80-62 in a game that saw MSU hit 12 threes. The third meeting was in the OVC Tournament championship game (March 3, 2012) that MSU won 54-52 when Jewuan Long hit the go-ahead shot with four seconds remaining to send MSU into the NCAA Tournament with 30 wins.
The Racers (17-5) are 8-2 in the west division of the OVC and coming off a 79-74 win Thursday night at the CFSB Center over Belmont to hand the Bruins their first loss of the season in league play. TSU (14-10) won in overtime at Austin Peay 88-82 and have won back-to-back games after losing three straight.
The Racers are 8-2 at home in the CFSB Center this season and 33-5 (.868) over the last three seasons.
MSU enters the game closing on the program's 1,500th all-time win. MSU is 1,495-829 (.642) in their 88th season of college basketball.
MSU All-America Isaiah Canaan enters the TSU game looking to become the sixth member of the MSU 2000-Point Club and the 17th in the history of the OVC. He is the top scorer in the OVC and was eighth in the nation as the week started and has 1,841 points. His school-record streak with a made three-point basket is at 31.
After the Tennessee State game, MSU has a three-game road trip starting at SIUE Thursday and at Eastern Illinois on Saturday (Feb. 16). MSU also plays at Morehead State (Feb. 20). All three games will be seen on the Racer TV Network and ESPN3.
