This weekend four members of the men's tennis team will travel to Athens, Ga. to play in the annual Southern Intercollegiate Championships hosted by Georgia. A number of top schools will be competing including Alabama, Clemson, Florida Atlantic, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, South Florida, Tennessee, UAB, Vanderbilt, Virginia and the host Bulldogs.
Coach Mel Purcell will take returning athletes Adam Taylor, Max McLean, Aleks Mitric and Nicholas Mitric on the trip. Said Purcell, "It's a good chance for the men to face some strong competition early in the season. There will be plenty of top schools from the SEC participating, so it'll be a good test for us."
Taylor will be playing at Division 1 singles while McLean and Aleks and Nicholas Mitric will compete at Division 2 singles. All four players will also compete at doubles with Taylor and McLean teaming up at Division 1 doubles and the Mitric brothers joining forces at Division 2 doubles.
The tournament opens up Friday, Sept. 13 at 8 a.m. with the singles competition. The doubles portion of the tournament will also begin Friday, no earlier than 4 p.m. Â
