Murray State women's track and field team opened their indoor season in Champaign, Ill. at the Illini Classic.
Junior LaShea Shaw placed in the top ten of three events on the afternoon. She finished fourth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.78 before placing eighth in both the 60m dash (7.95) and the 200m dash (25.72).
Also competing in the 60m dash were sophomore Hannah McAllister and freshman Victoria Yocum. McAllister also qualified for the finals running a personal best 7.86 before finishing in seventh place with a time of 7.94. Yocum, running in her first collegiate race, placed 15th in the event out of 39 competitors with a time of 8.02.
In the 800m run, junior Brittany Bohn ran an indoor personal-best time 2:21.09 to finish in 11th place. Freshman Tia Weston placed three spots behind her in 14th place with a time of 2:23.06. Bohn also led the Racers in the mile run. Her time of 5:18.93 was good for 25th place out of 51 runners.
In the throws, Tonia Pratt placed in the top-10 in both the shot put and the weight throw. Pratt finished in seventh place in the shot put with a toss of 13.88m (46'6.5") and fourth in the weight throw, throwing 17.44m (57'2.625").
Senior Katie Forshey was one of the four other Racers to finish in the top-five. Forshey placed fourth in the high jump with a leap of 1.66m (5'5"). Junior Ashley Conway also took home a top-10 finish in the event. Conway cleared 1.56m (5'1") to finish tied for ninth place.
In the triple jump, sophomores Kiara Austin and Jill Jachino both placed in the top ten. Austin secured another Racer top-five finish with a jump of 11.24m (36'10.5") to place fourth while Jachino placed sixth with a jump of 10.64m (34'11").
Making her collegiate debut, freshman Chleo LeGrand finished in eighth place in the pole vault. LeGrand cleared 3.20m (10'6").
The Racers will hit the track again next weekend at the Eastern Illinois Invitational in Charleston, Ill.
