Racers Look For OVC Road Success At EIU

The Murray State Racers hit the road for an Ohio Valley Conference road test Friday in Charleston, Illinois against the Eastern Illinois Panthers at Lakeside Field.
Match time is set for 3 p.m.

The Racers enter the contest 8-7 overall and they have a share of OVC first place at 4-2 after last weekend's white wash of Morehead State and Eastern Kentucky. The Racers got back-to-back shutouts from goal keeper Shelby Haworth and a constant attacking offense that featured a hat trick from Julie Mooney.

In the current OVC standings, the Racers have 12 points, the same as SIUE. Morehead State has 11 points and UT Martin has 10. It's a three-way tie for fifth place between Jacksonville State, SE Missouri and Austin Peay all with nine points. The winner of the OVC regular season gets to host the post season tournament (Nov. 5-9).

MSU wants to take the success they've had at home where they've gone 7-1 with seven straight wins and transfer it to road matches where they're 1-6 this season. MSU's lone road win was an impressive one at Saint Louis 1-0 (Sept. 14).

The Racers are 30-21-8 all time in OVC play since they began the program in 2000 and they're 27-30-2 in road games.

MSU has scored one win in seven visits to Lakeside Field at EIU in 2008.

Mooney continues to make a run at several MSU career and season records. She is just one goal from tying Theresa Reedy's 13 goals in 2004. Mooney is also taking aim at Reedy's all-time goals mark of 34 from 2001-04. After her hat trick last weekend against Morehead State, Mooney has 28 goals.

This is the first week in OVC play where the racers have only one match to play. After taking on the Panthers Friday, the Racers play at Austin Peay (Oct. 24).
