Late Push Falls Short At SEMO

The Murray State Racers suffered a 2-1 loss in Ohio Valley Conference women's soccer Sunday to Southeast Missouri at Houck Stadium in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
The loss dropped the Racers 6-7 overall and 2-2 in the OVC.
Trailing 1-0 in the 36th minute, Julie Mooney scored a penalty kick goal for the Racers. A foul occurred when Pavlina Nepokojova dribbled the ball into the box. Mooney made good on the try for her ninth goal of the season and it tied the game 1-1. SEMO had taken a 1-0 in the third minute of the game on a goal by Kasey Crowden.
The game turned for the Redhawks (5-4, 2-1 OVC) in the 79th minute when Natasha Minor scored.
The Racers pressed the rest of the game and had some good scoring chances, but could not get the equalizer.
MSU outshot SEMO 14-11 for the game. The Racers had nine shots on goal, while SEMO had 8.
Racer goalkeeper Shelby Haworth made six saves.
MSU played two close matches, but had a tough weekend following Friday's 2-1 overtime loss at SIUE. The Racers now regroup this week and prepare for a pair of home games at Cutchin Field starting with Friday's 3 p.m. start against Morehead State (Oct. 10). MSU plays at home Sunday (Oct. 12) when they host Eastern Kentucky at 1 p.m.
MSU is 5-1 at home this season and have won five straight.
