Murray State's women's track and field team continued their indoor season at the Southern Illinois Invitational. A number of Racers wrote their names in the history books, setting personal bests with all-time marks.
LaShea Shaw sparked the Racers in the early going. Shaw jumped out of the blocks, setting a new personal record in the 60m dash. She won the event with a time of 7.62, the second fastest ever at MSU. Shaw wasn't finished though. She also won the 60m hurdles in a personal-best time 8.52, also the second fastest ever at MSU.Â
The distance group also etched their name into the record books. Brittany Bohn set PRs in both the mile (5:04.43) and the 3,000m (10:18.51), recording the third and fourth fastest times in the respective events. Carolyne Tanui finished just a tick behind Bohn in the 3,000m. Her time of 10:19.02 was good for sixth place and fifth on the all-time list.
Not to be outdone were Emma Gilmore and Alicyn Hester in the mile. Gilmore (5:06.99) and Hester (5:10.91) both hit personal bests and are now No's. five and eight all time. The trio of Bohn, Gilmore and Hester finished in fourth, sixth and ninth places respectively in a field of 52.
In the throws, Tonia Pratt continued her stellar season finishing fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 18.40m (60'4.5"). Pratt also finished fourth in the shot put with a distance of 14.32m (46'11.75").
Chleo LeGrand finished sixth in the pole vault, jumping 3.38m (11'1") her first collegiate time clearing 11'.
A group from MSU's men's cross country team also made the trip. Cole Cisneros, Lucas Prather and Evan Staviski ran the 3,000m. Cisneros was the first Racer to cross the line in 9:19.09 for 14th place. He was followed by Prather (9:28.13) and Staviski (9.37.94) who finished in 19th and 25th places respectively. Â Â
The Racers get ready for their final tune-up before the indoor OVC Championships. They'll head to Allendale, Mich. for the Grand Valley State Big Meet Feb. 14-15.Â
