Murray State's men's tennis team got off on the wrong foot to start their conference season. The Racers were swept 7-0 at Tennessee Tech, lowering their record to 1-6.
The most tightly contested match came from the No. 1 doubles position. MSU's Adam Taylor and Max McLean were unable to hold onto an early lead. The doubles point had already been won earlier with the Golden Eagles taking doubles draws two and three.
In singles competition, only David Hess was able to secure a set win. Playing in the No. 5 position, Hess lost 6-0, 3-6, 6-2.
McLean nearly took opponent Alberto Esteban to a third set. The junior fell just shy, losing 6-1, 7-5.
For Tennessee Tech it is their 17th straight OVC regular season win. The two-time defending regular season champions went 8-0 the past two seasons.
MSU has already postponed their match against Jacksonville State scheduled for March 16. They next play March 19th in a nonconference bout with Oral Roberts.
