Murray State's men's tennis team earned just their second win of the season and first in conference play. The Racers took down Tennessee State 6-1, improving to 2-7 on the season and evening their record at 1-1 in the OVC.
The teams only played two doubles matches, with the Racers coming out on top in both. Adam Taylor and Max McLean were deadlocked at 5-5 against Kyle Burton and Daniel Bernal at first doubles, but Taylor and McLean won the next three sets to take the match 8-5. Nicholas and Aleks Mitric won the doubles point for the Racers with an 8-3 win in the second draw.
MSU won four of the five singles draws as well. No one felt any better than Max McLean who earned his first singles win of the season at the No. 2 position. McLean never trailed as he swept Burton 6-1, 6-1.
Taylor, Aleks Mitric and David Hess also won their draws. Taylor was victorious in the No. 1 spot, 6-1, 6-2, Mitric had an easy time at fourth singles with a pair of 6-1 set wins, and Hess didn't drop a point, sweeping at No. 5 6-0, 6-0.
The only loss for the Racers came in the most competitive match of the afternoon. In the No. 3 spot, Nicholas Mitric traded blows with Joe Daniels, but fell short 7-5, 7-5.
The Racers will look to win their second straight when Belmont comes to the Purcell Tennis Courts Sunday, March 23. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
