Murray State's men's tennis team fought hard and played some close matches, but SIUE proved too much for MSU, handing the Racers their second straight loss, 4-1. The loss puts the Racers at 1-3 in the conference and 2-9 overall.
The Racers played hard, opening the afternoon with the doubles portion of the match. Adam Taylor and Max McLean were victorious, 8-4, at first doubles, evening their conference record at 2-2. The new tandem of David Hess and Nicholas Mitric on court two battled to the end, but came up short, 8-6, while Anjan Kashyab and Aleks Mitric fell 8-3 in the third slot.
Taylor made it 2-for-2 on the afternoon with his first draw singles win. Taylor took down Nicholas Vincent in two sets, 7-6, 6-4.
Max McLean put up a valiant effort at the second draw, and was leading in the third and final set when the match was called with SIUE having already won the overall match. McLean overcame a 6-2 first set loss to win 7-5 in set number two and was ahead 4-3 when the match was called.
MSU will take the court tomorrow morning to complete their home schedule against Eastern Illinois. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m. The team will also honor Adam Taylor prior to the match, as the only senior member of the Racers this season.
