Racers: Home vs Evansville (Dec. 5)
Cougars: at Rhode Island (Dec. 8)
The Murray State Racers hit the road again for a trip to the Lone Star State and a Wednesday date with the Houston Cougars. Tip time at Hofheinz Pavilion in Houston is set for 7 p.m. Central Time.Â
All Murray State games are heard over free radio on WFGE Froggy 103.7 FM and online at Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com. Neal Bradley is in his 25th season as the Voice of the Racers. Former MSU assistant coach Kenny Roth provides analysis. The game can been seen online at ESPN3.com.
The Racers are in a stretch of games that has seen them play in Georgia, Florida and now Texas in 10 days. MSU was runner-up at the Gulf Coast Showcase in Estero, Fla., Thanksgiving week. They returned home Saturday and scored a 63-61 win over Alabama A&M to push their home win streak to 18. Interestingly, the Racers haven't lost at home since the Cougars beat them in the season opener last season.
MSU went into Saturday's game knowing they'll face three undefeated opponents including AAMU. The Racers only made six field goals in the second half, but locked the Bulldogs down to only nine made shots. Now the Racers face undefeated Houston and Saturday returns home to face a hot Evansville team that hasn't lost a game yet.
At 5-2, the Racers are off to their best start in November since the 2012 team started 5-1. Last season's team won their final game in November and didn't lose until March after they'd won 25 straight.
MSU senior Wayne "Lefty" Langston was named to the Gulf Coast Showcase All-Tournament Team after he hit 20-of-27 shots and scored 15 points a game. He's second in the Ohio Valley Conference in field goal percentage at .661, second only to Evan Bradds of Belmont who's shooting at a .738 clip. Langston leads the Racers with 13.7 points per game and is coming off his first double-double as a Racer in the AAMU game with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Because of Lefty's play in the middle, MSU is averaging 23.6 points per game in the paint. MSU is 10-1 when he scores 10+.
It's only a matter of time before senior Jeffery Moss gets more shots to fall. With a career resume that puts him among the best shooters in Murray State history, Moss recently became the 43rd member of the MSU 1000-Point Club. Even so, Moss is second on the team with a scoring average of 11.1.
Matt McMahon is in his rookie season as the Racers' coach. He took over in June when there was a sudden and late change at the top when Steve Prohm left MSU to take the job at Iowa State. McMahon served four seasons as an assistant to Prohm helping the Racers win 104 games and two OVC titles.
The Racers return home Saturday to host the Evansville Purple Aces at the CFSB Center. Tip time is 7:30 p.m., to accommodate fans attending the Murray Rotary Christmas Parade in downtown at 5:30 p.m.
