The Murray State Racers hit the road for Fairborn, Ohio for a Tuesday game against the Wright State Raiders. The Racers' final game before Christmas tips at 6 p.m. Central Time at the Nutter Center.
All Murray State games are heard over free radio on WFGE Froggy 103.7 FM and online at Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com. Neal Bradley is in his 25th season as the Voice of the Racers. MSU sports information director Dave Winder provides commentary. Streaming video of the game is offered online at ESPN3.com
The game finds the Racers (5-6) looking to bust out of a four-game losing skid, their longest since 2008. Two of the losses were games that could've gone either way. MSU lost in overtime at home to Evansville (Dec. 5) and by two points at Illinois State (Dec. 13). MSU fell at home Friday to Southern Illinois 88-73 in a game that was tied with eight minutes remaining.
Wright State (5-7) took care of Bowling Green at home Sunday 83-47. The Raiders, like the Racers, have also played a difficult schedule with games at Kentucky and Xavier.
Playing one of the toughest non-conference schedules in program history, the Racers enter the WSU game with 11 prior games where there haven't been many easy nights. MSU's schedule is ranked No. 21 in the nation according to BBState.com. Now they face the challenge of going to the Nutter Center where the Raiders are 34-17 the last four seasons.Â
Murray State meets Wright State for just the third time and the first since 2008 when the Raiders won in Puerto Rico. The Racers are 13-11 all-time against the current membership of the Horizon League. MSU's last win against a Horizone team was at home in the 2006 Bracket Buster. Coach Mick Cronin's Racers defeated Illinois-Chicago at the CFSB Center 72-68. Murray State snapped a four-game skid against Horizon teams when they defeated Milwaukee 66-63 at the Gulf Coast Showcase in Estero, Fla. (Nov. 23). Murray State's history against the Horizon league includes 14 games against Youngstown State. The Racers met the Penguins betweeen 1981 and 1994 as members of the Ohio Valley Conference.
After the game at Wright State, the Racers bus back to Murray and take a break for Christmas. The team returns to competition with a game at home against the Brescia Bearcats (Dec. 30). The game marks MSU's final game before starting OVC play at home against Morehead State (Jan. 2). The Morehead State game will be aired by the CBS Sports Network.
