Racers Show Promise at Vanderbilt

Murray State Track and Field participated in their first meet of the season on Saturday at Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tennessee.
Tamdra Lawrence placed second in the 200m with a time of 24.90 which places her fifth in the event all-time at Murray State. Lawrence placed third overall the 60m with a time of 7.60 which moves her into second place all-time for MSU in the event.
Deja Rodgers placed eighth in the 60m dash with a time of 7.75.
Victoria Yocum ran in the 200m dash and finished with a time of 26.24.
Brittany Bohn placed third in the 800m with a time of 2:14, which places her seventh all-time in the event at MSU. Emani Griffin (2:22), Tia Weston (2:28), and Kimmy Siebert (2:46) also competed in the event.
Bohn placed fourth in the mile with a time of 4:59. The time places her third all-time at MSU. Other Racers who competed in the event were Ida Mutai (5:48),Heatherly Paschall (5:59), Emily Evans (6:05), Purity Chebet (6:28) and Rebecca Morris (7:06).
Anna Curlin finished with the best time for the Racers in the 400m with a time of 59.25. Jocelyn Payne (59.28), Taylor Adcock (1:02), and Aubrey Main (1:02) also competed in the event.
Vallery Korir placed fourth in the 3000m with a time of 10:06. Rebekah Priddy placed seventhin the event with a time of 10:28. Caroline Grogan followed behind in eighthplace with a time of 10:30. Emily Flaherty rounded out the Racers in the event as she finished with a time of 10:53.
Freshman Jabreuna Brimlett placed sixth in the 60m hurdles in her first collegiate meet with a time of 8.83. The time places her fourth all-time at MSU. Senior Jolyta Henderson competed in the 60m hurdles and finished with a time of 9.54. Lauren Miller (9.63), Kassidy Cook (9.64) and Kristen Higgins (9.83) also competed in the event.
Brimlett also competed in the long jump where she jumped 5.54m (18' 2.25"). Taylor McCammon jumped 5.23m (17'2"). Kassidy Cook jumped 5.08m (16'8"). Jill Jachino jumped 5.04 (16'6.50").
Another freshman who had an impressive performance was Aubrey Main who placed 8th in the high jump jumping 1.61m (5' 3.25").
The Racers had two athletes compete in the shot put. Christina Meinhardt threw 12.06m (39'7"). Freshman Darcy Sullivan threw 9.14 (30'0").
Senior Brianna McCarthy finished eigth in weight throw throwing 14.49m (47' 6.50"). Freshmen Kai Perkins also competed in the weight throw throwing 8.91m (29' 2.75").
The 4x400m relay of Adcock, Curlin, Payne, and Lawrence finished with a time of 4:06.
Head coach Jenny Swieton was pleased with how her athletes results from the meet. "We had good performances in nearly every event." Swieton hopes the momentum will carry the team through the break to the next meet also at Vanderbilt on January 15-16.
"We have a strong young team," said Swieton. "I'm excited to see what the season holds."
