Inside the Series
The Racers and Red Wolves will meet for the 100th time all-time Tuesday as Arkansas State comes to Reagan Field for non-conference action. MSU has lost seven straight in the series to Arkansas State, its last win came in 2009 in Murray in an 11-5 victory. The Racers will travel to Jonesboro April 21 to close the season's home-and-home series.
Last Week
After losing a midweek contest to Evansville, the Racers responded to win 2-of-3 against Austin Peay in their home-opening series at Reagan Field. MSU won game one, 4-3 and rallied from four down in the seventh to win game three, 6-4. ASU is coming off a 1-2 weekend at Georgia Southern last week. The two teams played a pair of extra innings contests, playing 13 in game one, an ASU win and 11 innings in game two.
One-Two Punch
Anthony Bayus and Derek Yoder recorded eight of the Racers' 18 hits over the weekend against Austin Peay. Bayus' five hits led the team as he hit .455 for the series and scored two runs. Yoder went 3-for-9 (.333) against the Governors with two doubles and scored five runs in the three games.
Spark Plug
After spending most of the series on the bench, MSU reserve Clay Kelly made the most of his opportunity in the Racers' 6-4 game three win over Austin Peay. Kelly appeared as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning and delivered a double down the left field line, forcing the Govs to go to their bullpen. In the eighth, Kelly gave the Racers an insurance run with an RBI single to right that scored Taylor Mathews.
Scouting Arkansas State
The Red Wolves are led offensively by Zach George who is hitting a team-best .362 on the season. ASU has five players with 10 or more RBI this season and is led by Joe Schrimpf's 14. Matt Burgess' nine extra-base hits leads the team in 2015 while Stuart Levy's 15 runs scored leads the Red Wolves. Ty White leads the squad with four stolen bases on the year on five attempts.
