Racers Take on Eastern Kentucky and Saint Louis

The Murray State women's soccer team will open Ohio Valley Conference play Thursday against Eastern Kentucky in Richmond at 3 p.m. On Sunday, the Racers will finish nonconference play against Saint Louis at Cutchin Field at 1 p.m.
The Racers are 4-3 on the season, coming off a 0-3 loss against IUPUI last Sunday.In that game Harriett Withers led the team in shots attempted for the match with four, while Ali Critcher, Nyomi Devine, and Racheal Foxley played all 90 minutes on defense for the Racers. Shelby Haworth had four saves and allowed three goals in the match.
EKU is 0-8 so far this season and are coming of a 2-1 overtime loss to Kent State. Kacy Eckley had the lone goal in the match, a header from close range with an assist by Cassie Smith in the 21st minute. Logan Harvey leads the Colonels in goals this season with two goals, while four players have one . Both Anna Hall and Samm Melton have gotten substantial playing time in goal this season, with a combined goals allowed average of 2.99.
This will be the twelfth meeting between the two teams. In the last matchup, in 2014 the Racers defeated the Colonels at Cutchin Field 2-0. When MSU faced EKU at Richmond in 2013, EKU won the match 2-0. The Racers lead the all-time series 6-3-2.
Saint Louis is 5-3 this season and are coming off of a 2-0 win over Evansville for the 200th victory in program history. Maddie Pokorny and Danielle Tomalais each had a goal in the victory over UE, while Livi Logan-Wood leads all players on the season with five goals. Goalkeepers Hanna Benben and Tristin Stuteville have split time between the posts this season for SLU and have a combined goal average of 1.35 and 34 total saves.
This will be the third matchup between Saint Louis and Murray State and marks the Billikens first trip to Cutchin Field. In the last matchup in 2014, the Racers defeated the Billikens, 1-0, in Saint Louis with a 79th minute winner from Pavlin Nepokojova.
The Racers will return hone next weekend at home as they go full force into conference play against UT Martin and Southeast Missouri.
