The Murray State women's basketball team closes its non-conference schedule and the fall semester Wednesday as the Racers travel to Mississippi to face the Devilettes of Mississippi Valley State. This will be the first meeting with MVSU since 1994.
This will be the Racers' final contest before they have a week-plus off for Christmas break. It will be MSU's fifth road contest this season, so far, the Racers are 1-3 on the road and went 1-1 last weekend at the Wichita State Winter Classic in a pair of neutral site contests.
At WSU, the Racers defeated Incarnate Word on Friday afternoon, 72-68. LeAsia Wright led four Racers in double figures with 20 points in the victory. Wright also pulled down a career-high nine rebounds in the contest while going 7-for-12 shooting from the floor and 4-of-8 from 3-point range. Ke'Shunan James tallied 16 points, six boards and five assists against the Cardinals, while Jasmine Borders and Abria Gulledge added 15 points each. On Saturday, the Racers fell 57-81 to Abilene Christian. MSU struggled shooting in the loss, hitting a season-low 35 percent of its shots while the 57 points is also a season low. Borders led the Racers with 13 points in the game.
Wednesday will be the first-ever trip for the Racers to Itta Bena as the previous three contests against MVSU were all played at neutral sites. The last time MSU played a true road game this season, the Racers defeated Northern Kentucky, 72-69 in overtime on Dec. 10. The Racers are averaging 66.2 points per game this season on the road, compared to an 85-point average at the CFSB Center. Center Kyra Gulledge has seen a spike in her numbers on the road this season, as she is averaging 5.5 points and 10 rebounds away from home and is shooting 62 percent.
The Devilettes are led by Christina Reed's 16.9 points per game this season. Reed is shooting 39.8 percent overall from the field and leads MVSU with a 36 percent clip from 3-point range.
