HSSU is led by first-year Head Coach CJ Bilbrey who is in his third season overall with the program. Stats have not been updated for the Hornets to reflect their last four games, but through their first two-game series to open the year, HSSU is led offensively by Alvi Arsalaan who is hitting .500 and is tied for the team lead with two runs scored. Andres Alburjas leads the squad with three RBIs while Jordan Weaks hit the Hornets' lone home run in the series. Larry Molina and Stephen Wells got the two starts in the series for the Hornets.

The Racers' 5-0 shutout victory over Bethune-Cookman on Friday was the first win in a season opener for MSU since the 2010 season. Three newcomers notched multi-hit games in the win as Adam Bauer and Aaron Bence each went 3-for-4. Bauer also scored two runs and collected a home run and a triple in the win as well. Brandon Gutzler was 2-of-5 in the game and also threw-out a BCU baserunner at home from right field to keep the Wildcats off the board in the first inning.
