Racers Comeback Falls Short

The Murray State men's tennis team came up short at home in their match against SIU-Edwardsville on Saturday as they were defeated 4-2.
The Racers fought hard in the doubles point. Partners Will True and Javier Villar won their match at the No. 3 doubles 6-3. The fate of the doubles point came down to the results of the No. 1 doubles. Partners Marcel Ueltzhoeffer and David Schrott fell in the match 6-1 giving the Cougars the early 1-0 lead.
The doubles point proved to be an important factor in the match.True won his match at the No. 2 singles court. After playing a hard fought first set in which he won 7-5, True found his rhythm and defeated his opponent in the second set 6-0. Ueltzhoeffer won his second consecutive match at the No. 1 singles. After winning the first set 6-0, he lost the second set 3-6. Down 2-4 in the third set Ueltzhoeffer rallied to defeat his opponent 6-4.
The match was decided at the No. 6 singles court. Freshman Javier Villar fell behind as he lost his first set 2-6. He came from behind to win his second set 7-6. In the third set, Villar could not get it done as he lost 2-6 which sealed the victory for SIUE.
Murray State (2-14, 0-4) continues OVC play as they travel to Austin Peay for their match on April 5. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
