The Murray State track and field program is proud to host the annual Margaret Simmons Invitational on Friday. The meet is named after Margaret Simmons, Murray State Hall of Fame member and the Racers women's cross country and track and field coach from 1968-1991.Â
At the Black and Gold Invitational, Rebekah Priddy broke the school record in the 2000 meter steeple as she ran 7:06. Tamdra Lawrence also got on the all-time list as she ran 23.94 in the 200 meters. in the 100 meter hurdles, Jabreuna Brimlet ran 13.97, the fourth fastest time all-time in the event at MSU.Â
Jill Jachino and Vallery Korir made moves up the all-time best lists. Jachino set an outdoor personal record in the triple jump as she jumped 11.63 meters (38'2"). Vallery Korir also set an outdoor personal record in the 3000 meters as she ran 9:59. Leah Krause also ran a personal best in the event as she ran 10:27 which is tenth all-time at MSU.
Throwing events are set to start at noon on Friday with the womne's hammer throw. Prior to the running events, there will be a ceremony to honor the graduating seniors. The Fastest Kid in Murray is set to begin at 6 p.m. followed by the Murray Mile and the Track and Field Day.
