Adam Bauer went 4-for-5 with four RBIs and four runs scored as he and the Murray State baseball team ran past Saint Louis Tuesday night, 9-1 at the Billiken Sports Complex. Bauer also tied a school record with two triples in the win.
Bauer's two triples mark the 13th time in program history that a Racer has hit a pair of triples in a game. Zach Noonan was the last to accomplish the feat back in 2010 against Evansville.
Caleb Hicks and Tyler Lawrence both collected two RBIs on the night, with Hicks going 3-for-5 at the dish. Kipp Moore also had a multi-hit game in the win as he was 2-of-5 and scored a pair of runs. Meanwhile, the MSU (17-20) bullpen was great on the night as well as six pitchers combined to pitch 7.1 scoreless innings on the night and allowed just six hits and struck-out eight.
Brandon Hicks picked up the win in relief of starter Austin Dubsky. Hicks went 2.1 innings and allowed three hits. Andrew Bramley also went 2.1 innings and struck-out four Billikens. Blake Clynes, Chad Gendron, Cody Maerz and Derrik Watson also appeared in relief for the Racers.
After Saint Louis (16-18) got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the first inning, the Racers were able to score nine unanswered, including a three-run third to take the lead and a big four-run eighth inning to extend its margin.
Bauer's first three-bagger of the game in the third hit off the right field wall and brought home Moore to tie the game at 1-1. Lawrence's double down the line in the next at-bat easily scored Bauer and a Hicks infield hit scored Lawrence after he advanced on a throwing error trying to get Hicks out, made it 3-1.
A Hicks double to left center in the top of the fifth made it 4-1 good guys and MSU would add another lone run in the seventh on one of SLU's three errors on the night. The biggest blow of the night came on Bauer's second triple, as it cleared the bases for three runs to make it 8-1 in favor of the Racers. The next at-bat, Lawrence brought home Bauer with a sacrifice fly.
The Racers are now off for the week as it is their conference bye week. MSU returns to action April 20 when it travels to Ole Miss for a 6:30 p.m. contest with the ranked Rebels.
