First Pitch
The Racers return to action after a week off and face nationally-ranked Ole Miss Wednesday night. This will be the fifth straight meeting on an even year between the two schools, having faced one another in 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014 prior to this. The Rebels are coming off a 1-2 weekend against Alabama in SEC play. MSU went 1-1 last week.
Inside The Matchup
All 21 of the previous meetings in this series have been in Oxford. The Racers are looking for their first win against the Rebels since 2006. Ole Miss has won the last five games in the series. The 15th-ranked Rebels are an impressive 16-5 this season at Swayze field. MSU is looking for its sixth win away from home this season.
National Leaders
Adam Bauer and Tyler Lawrence lead the nation in three statistical categories this season. Bauer's 53 runs scored and seven triples are tops in collegiate baseball, while Lawrence's 19 doubles are a national high. Bauer's seven triples are now the most in a single season in program history while his 53 runs are tied for ninth-most all-time. Lawrence's doubles mark is in a tie for sixth for the most in a single season in school history.
Scouting Ole Miss
The Rebels are led by a pair of batters hitting .339 this season in Michael Fitzsimmons and Henri Lartique. Tate Blackman is third on the team with a .331 average and 26 RBIs. Colby Bortles leads the Rebels with 28 batted in and JB Woodman's 27 ribbies are the second-most on the team. Woodman leads the team with five homer runs and seven stolen bases in 2016, while Will Golsan has a team-high 29 runs scored. The Rebels are hitting .270 as a team this season.
