Murray State returns home to the CFSB Center Saturday night after closing a recent three-game road trip. The Racers will play four of their next five games at home after going 1-2 on their road swing. MSU is looking to snap a current two-game skid and a six-game home losing streak to UT Martin. The last time the Racers and Skyhawks squared off was in the First Round of last season's OVC Tournament. MSU became the first No. 8 seed in the history of the tournament to upset the top seed as the Racers won 78-76.
The last time out, the Racers lost at Southeast Missouri on Wednesday, 79-70. Ke'Shunan James led the Racers with 23 points and made a career-high 11 free throws in the loss. It was James' fourth consecutive game scoring 20 points or more. James moved into 10th-place on the all-time career scoring list in program history in the contest, surpassing Diane Oakley (1979-83). James has 1,356 career points.
James and LeAsia Wright currently rank first and fourth, respectively in the OVC in scoring as they average 19.9 and 15.9 points per game, respectively this season. The duo has combined to score 20 points or more 18 times this season, including reaching that mark in the same game six different times.
The Racers have enjoyed playing at home this season, going 7-1 so far at "The Bank". MSU has won three straight in Murray and is 2-0 in OVC contests at home. The Racers are averaging 85.5 points per game this season at the CFSB Center and is allowing just 62.8 per. MSU is shooting 44 percent from the floor and 31 percent from 3-point range in those eight contests.
The defending OVC regular season champion Skyhawks are coming off an 83-80 victory on Wednesday over Austin Peay, snapping a six-game losing streak. Kendall Spray leads UT Martin in scoring, averaging 12.9 points per game this season. Myah Taylor is second on the squad at 12.5 points per. Two other Skyhawks average in double figures as Emanye Robertson and Ashton Feldhaus average 10.6 and 10.1 points per game, respectively. Robertson leads the Skyhawks with 94 assists (4.5 apg) and is the only student-athlete to start all 21 games this season. As a team, UTM is shooting 35 percent from 3-point range and is averaging 69.3 points per game, while allowing 79.1 on defense.
