Racers Fall to UTM at Home

Despite getting double-doubles from both Bria Bethea and LeAsia Wright on Saturday night, the Murray State women dropped its third consecutive game as the Racers fell to UT Martin at the CFSB Center, 90-70. The Skyhawks shot 50 percent from floor in the contest while MSU shot just 38.5 percent.
Bria Bethea led the Racers (12-9, 4-4 OVC) with 21 points and also grabbed 10 rebounds to tally her first career double-double. Bethea shot 8-of-15 from the floor and hit four 3-pointers in her first start of the season. LeAsia Wright also notched a double-double on the night as she scored 11 points and dished out a career-high 10 assists.
Jasmine Borders added 13 points and Ke'Shunan James chipped in with 12. Kyra Gulledge was just a point shy of registering the third double-double of the night as she scored nine points and grabbed a team-high 11 boards.
After a back-and-forth first quarter that ended with the Skyhawks (6-16, 3-6 OVC) out front 24-22, MSU found itself trailing 45-39 going into halftime after trailing by as many as nine points earlier in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, UTM was able to stretch its lead out to double digits and led 70-58 after three. The fourth quarter was all UT Martin as the Skyhawks outscored the Racers 20-12 in the period and held MSU to just 4-of-18 shooting from the floor and went 8-for-17 on their offense end in the final period.
UTM outscored the Racers 36-30 in points in the paint and had a 21-15 edge on points off turnovers. The Skyhawks also had a big 20-4 advantage in bench points. MSU did outrebound the Skyhawks 40-38 in the loss and had a 16-10 edge in second-chance points.
MSU looks to snap its skid next week as it travels to Morehead State on Wednesday for a 4 p.m., central time contest with the Eagles.
