The Murray State women look to make it a two-game sweep on its two-game road trip Saturday as the Racers travel to face Tennessee Tech at 5:30 p.m., in Cookeville, Tenn. The Racers are looking to extend their current winning streak to a season high four games. MSU is coming off a 71-64 victory Thursday at Jacksonville State. The Racers led wire-to-wire against the Gamecocks and had to withstand a furious second half rally from JSU, despite leading by as many as 23 points in the second half.
Ke'Shunan James' 18 points in the victory led MSU while LeAsia Wright scored 17 and Jasmine Borders had 14 in the win. The Racers shot 64 percent from the floor in the first half against JSU and went 6-of-10 from 3-point range. MSU was able to hang on for the win despite scoring just 25 points in the final two quarters and shooting 32 percent.
Through two conference games, James leads the league in scoring average at 21.5 points per game while Wright is third averaging 18.5 a contest during OVC play. The duo is shooting 50 and 46 percent, respectively during the young conference season and Wright has made 41 percent of her shots from 3-point range.
The Golden Eagles enter Saturday's contest led by Yaktavia Hickson's 16.6 points per game. Treyvonna Brooks is the only other TTU student-athlete averaging in double figures as she comes in at 10.1 points per game. Brooks also leads TTU with 6.8 rebounds a game, is shooting 47 percent from the field and leads the Golden Eagles from 3-point range, making a 35 percent clip. Guard Akia Harris is amongst the league leaders with four assists per game. Overall, the Golden Eagles are shooting 38 percent from the floor and 29 percent from beyond the arc. TTU is pulling down an average of 37.4 rebounds per game as a team and is averaging 61 points per game.
MSU has only won four games all-time on the road against the Golden Eagles but is on a current three-game road winning streak after beginning the season losing its first three on the road. The Racers are looking to begin OVC play 3-0 for the first time since 2007-08.
