The Murray State Racers return home to the friendly confines of the CFSB Center for a 7 p.m. game on Thanksgiving Saturday to tangle with long-time rival Southern Illinois University. The meeting between the two region powers is the 35th overall and their 12th since 2000. Â
Froggy 103 (WFGS 103.7 FM) airs every MSU game with "Voice of the Racers" Neal Bradley calling the action in his 26th season. Former MSU assistant coach Kenny Roth provides commentary. The Racers are 2-1 following an 80-61 victory in their first road game of the season Saturday at Wright State. Terrell Miller scored 21 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, while Jonathan Stark scored 16. The Racers finished the game on a 20-5 run in Dayton, Ohio.Â
SIU is also 2-1 following an 84-42 loss Tuesday against No. 19 Louisville Cardinals. The Salukis were led by Armon Fletcher who scored 14 points. Previously, SIU won at Winthrop 81-66 (Nov. 10) and at home last Saturday 69-64 over Illinois-Springfield. SIU was picked fifth in the Missouri Valley Conference Presason Poll and forward Thik Bol was named to the MVC Preseason Second-Team.
The Racers are coming off a preseason that saw them picked third in the OVC preseason poll as the league heads to a new venue in March when the OVC Tournament is contested at the Ford Center in Evansville, Ind. With Miller and Stark on the OVC Preseason Team, Stark became the 10th Racer in the last 24 seasons to be named OVC Preseason Player of the Year. Stark led the OVC in scoring a year ago at 21.9 ppg and has also been named to the Lou Henson Award watch list which goes to the top mid-major player as named by CollegeInsider.com.
The Racers are beginning a stretch of games that will see them at the CFSB Center for three in a row as Harris-Stowe comes to The Bank (Nov. 28) and Florida A&M visits (Dec. 2).
Murray State Athletics is offering a men's basketball ticket special through Dec. 8. December Duos allows fans to purchase a pair of lower bowl reserved bleacher seats for each of the Racers' December games including Florida A&M (Dec. 2), Marist (Dec. 16), Auburn (Dec. 19) and the OVC openers against Eastern Illinois (Dec. 28) and SIUE (Dec. 30).
