The Murray State women host their second home game this week as East Tennessee State comes to the CFSB Center Wednesday for a 6 p.m., contest. The Racers are coming off a 81-76 victory Monday night over Bethel (Tenn.). MSU survived a spirited second half comeback from the Wildcats to pick up its second victory of the season. Bria Bethea led the Racers with 21 points and eight rebounds in the win while Ke'Shunan James added 19 points. Janika Griffith-Wallace added a career-best 15 points on the night.
With the 19 points, James passed Jennifer Parker (1990-94) for sixth place on the all-time career-scoring list in program history. James now has 1,692 career points. Next up on the list is Michelle Wenning (1987-91) in fifth with 1,724 career points, just ahead of her is Laura Lynn's (1977-81) 1,735 points in fourth.Â
Bethea and James are currently the highest-scoring teammates in the country entering Wednesday's contest, combining to score 42.2 points per game. James' 23.2 points per game are the ninth-highest mark in the nation while Bethea's 19 per rank 64th in the NCAA.Â
Tianna Tarter's 17.1 points per game lead the Bucs while Erica Haynes-Overton is the other Buc in double figures, averaging 13.4 per contest. Britney Snowden leads ETSU with 5.8 rebounds per game and is fourth in scoring average at 7.5 per. UT Martin transfer Shy Copney, is third on the team in scoring at 8.1 per contest and is the leading scorer for ETSU off the bench. East Tennessee State enters Wednesday's contest having lost three games in a row after a 4-1 start. The Buccaneers are shooting 37.7 percent from the floor this year and are averaging 70.2 points per game.Â
After Wednesday, the Racers will close their three-game week with a trip south to face Alabama A&M Friday at 6 p.m. It will be MSU's final game before a 10-day break leading up to a Dec. 11 contest at UNCG.
