For the first time in nearly three weeks (November 29) the Murray State women will play at home Monday as Mississippi Valley State comes to the "The Bank" for a 6 p.m. contest. The Racers are coming off a dominant second half performance last Monday at UNCG. MSU outscored the Spartans 39-17 in final 20 minutes Dec. 11 and came away with a 63-52 victory.
The win was the first on the road this year for the Racers. Bria Bethea led MSU in most statistical categories off the bench as she scored 18 points, grabbed eight rebounds and tallied three assists in the win. Janika Griffith-Wallace was the other Racer in double figures as she added 10 points.
Ke'Shunan James scored a season-low eight points in the win but surpassed Laura Lynn (1977-81) on the all-time career-scoring list at MSU and now has 1,736 career points and sits in fourth. Next up, is current MSU assistant Amber Guffey's (2005-09) 1,877 career points. At her current scoring clip, James will surpass her coach in the next seven games.
The Devilettes enter Monday's contest looking for their first victory of the season. MVSU is led by "do-everything" guard LaKendra Bassett who leads the team in points per game (15.1), assists per game (4.1) and rebounds per game (5.5). Kristy Parker is the lone other Devilette averaging in double figures this season, coming in at a 14.3 per game average. Desiray Mosley is MVSU's third-leading scorer at 9.5 per game as she has come off the bench each game this year. As a team, MVSU is shooting 31 percent from the floor overall and 20.5 percent from 3-point range while averaging just 57 points per game.
Monday will be MSU's final non-conference home contest of 2017. The Racers close their first semester of action Wednesday when they travel to face SEC opponent Alabama at 7 p.m.
