The Murray State women's basketball team will hit the road for the first time in two weeks after a three-game homestand in which the Racers went 2-1. Wednesday, the Racers travel to face Eastern Illinois in a 6 p.m., contest at Lantz Arena. MSU's 92 points in its win over EIU earlier this season is a season-high for the Racers against Division I opponents. LeAsia Wright led the team with 24 points back in January in the victory over the Panthers while Ke'Shunan James had 23 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists.
MSU is coming off a 67-62 victory over Austin Peay Saturday at the CFSB Center. James led the Racers with 28 points on 9-of-14 shooting in the victory. James also grabbed eight rebounds and went 10-of-10 at the free-throw line. Bria Bethea added 19 points in the win and Kyra Gulledge grabbed a game-high 11 boards.
James was named the OVC Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Tuesday for her efforts against APSU and earlier in the week against Eastern Kentucky. James averaged 24.5 points and eight rebounds per game on 63 percent shooting for the week.
Since being inserted into the starting lineup against UT Martin, Bethea is averaging 17.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. Bethea is shooting 51 percent overall from the floor, 46 percent from 3-point range and 84 percent at the charity stripe in those five games.
Eastern Illinois is led by one of the top point guards in the OVC in Grace Lennox. Lennox leads the Panthers averaging 16.1 points and 4.5 assists per game. Erica Brown is second on the team at 11.4 points per game and her 7.8 rebounds per contest are a team- and league-best mark. Brown, Lennox and Allison Van Dyke are the three players for EIU that have started in all 25 games this season. As a team, the Panthers are shooting 42.5 percent from the floor and just under 31 percent from 3-point range. EIU enters Wednesday's contest having lost four of its last five.
