With their hopes of taking a high seed in next week's Ohio Valley Conference Postseason Tournament dashed, the Murray State Racers (14-15, 8-7 OVC) play the regular season final at UT Martin (19-11, 9-6 OVC ) face their biggest week of the season which happens to be the final week of the regular season.
Tip time at the Elam Center in Martin, Tenn., is set for 6 p.m. after the MSU women's team tangles with UTM at 4 p.m.
Froggy 103 (WFGS 103.7 FM) airs every MSU game with "Voice of the Racers" Neal Bradley, in his 26th season calling the action. Former MSU assistant coach Kenny Roth provides commentary. One of two impressive streaks for the MSU program is still attainable for the Racers. The program's run of 29-straight consecutive winning seasons can still be done, but their run of 13 straight OVC seasons of 10-plus wins ended with MSU's 82-69 loss at Southeast Missouri on Thursday.
One thing the Racers know is that they are guaranteed a spot in next week's OVC Tournament, but their seeding has a wild range that can have them anywhere from the No. 4 seed, all the way to the No. 8 seed. Indeed, there is a lot on the line in the game at UTM.
OVC champ Belmont is the No. 1 seed with Jacksonville State, Morehead State, Murray State, Southeast Missouri, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech and UT Martin have clinched spots in the field. The OVC West title and No. 2 seed will be either UTM or SEMO. In many of the tiebreakers (See all of them on page 3) the Racers win the higher seed including ones with UTM (MSU must win Saturday) and also TSU and TTU.
MSU swept the season series with UTM in the 2014-15 season. The Racers lost at UTM last season but beat the Skyhawks at home.
MSU won the first meeting with UTM this season (Jan. 28) at home 94-86.
