Dupree's Career Night - Racer Second Half Rally Fall Short At UTM
2/25/2017 11:13:00 AM | Men's Basketball
The Murray State Racers nearly erased a 24-point halftime deficit Saturday, but finally fell 83-76 to the UT Martin Skyhawks at the Elam Center in Martin, Tenn.
Â
The loss finishes the regular season for the Racers (14-16) at 8-8 in the Ohio Valley Conference. It gives MSU the No. 7 seed in next week's conference tournament where they'll face the No. 6 seed Tennessee Tech in a first round game at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee.
Â
MSU trailed 50-26 after a fairly difficult first half when they only made nine field goals.
Â
The Racers trailed by 20 with 10:17 left when they started chipping away. It grew to a 24-7 run to cut the UTM lead to 75-72 with 3:22 remaining. Jalen Dupree was fouled and made the basket with 1:57 left, but his would-be tying free throw rimmed out.
Â
MSU basically ran out of gas and hit only one of their next eight shots.
Â
Dupree ended with a career-high 20 points on 5-of-7 from the field and 10-of-14 from the free throw line. His 11 rebounds gave him his first double-double as a Racer. Jonathan Stark scored 23 points to lead the Racers. Bryce Jones added 13 points.
