Racers Can’t Close Gap At Arkansas State

The Murray State women's basketball team never trailed by more than 11 points in the second half Tuesday night at the First National Bank Arena in Jonesboro, but could never cut Arkansas State's lead to less than five, falling for just the second time this season, 74-63.
The Racers led for most of the first quarter and held a 17-14 lead at the end of the first stanza. However, when the Red Wolves took the lead on a Jordan Elder three-pointer with 4:43 left in the second quarter, Murray State would never be able to regain the lead, eventually falling by 11.
Despite helping their own cause at the free throw line by going 18-for-20, the Racers were uncharacteristically cold from the floor, shooting a season-low 33.9 percent. The Red Wolves shot a season-high for a Racer opponent of 43.3 percent from 3-point range by going 7-for-16, while their bench outscored the Racers', 36-8.
Evelyn Adebayo led Murray State with 18 points on the night, including going 2-for-3 from 3-point range and 6-for-6 from the free throw line, to go along with nine rebounds. Macey Turley followed with 15 points, while Lex Mayes followed with 13. Cekeya Mack tied Adebayo for most rebounds in the game with nine, while Alexis Burpo had eight.
