Racers Finish First In Island Meet

The Murray State women's track and field team came away with their second straight first-place finish, as they took the top spot at the Island Meet in Gulf Shore, Ala., on Friday, March 23.
Sprints

In the 100-meters, Murray State recorded six of the top 10 times. Placing in the top-five was Jabreuna Brimlett  (12.12), Norma Abdur-Rafia (12.16), Daijah White (12.19) and Alison Woerner (12.82).Â
Much like the 100-meter, the 200-meter saw multiple Racers place in the top-five. Tamdra Lawrence came away with the top time of 24.13, followed behind her was Abdur-Rafia with a time of 24.27, White with a time of 24.98 and Main with a time of 25.93.
Main took the top time in the 100-meter hurdles with a 15.26 finish.
Middle Distance
The 400-meter race saw D'Myia Thornton finish first with a time of 58.79, while Hilary McAdam, Lawrence and  Summer Wheeler placed second through fourth with times of 59.43, 59.73 and 1:01.28.
Rebekah Priddy came in second in the 800-meter race to lead the Racers. Meagan Smith and Ida Mutai also came in the top-five with times of 2:29.08 and 2:30.50.
Long Distance
The 1500-meter race saw Priddy and Smith take first and second with times of 4:50.79 and 4:52.95. McAdam and Mutai finished fourth and fifth with times of 4:56.53 and 4:59.08.
Relays
In the 4 x 100 relay, the "A" squad of White, Abdur-Rafia, Brimlett and Lawrence came in first with a time of 53.48.
The 4 x 400 relay saw Murray State take the top four times with times of 3:57.25, 4:23.28, 4:35.27 and 4:38.89.
Field Events
In the high jump, Main and Tewes finished in the top-five. Main came in first with a mark of 1.66m (5'5.25'') and Tewes finished fifth with a mark of 1.50m (4'11'').
Heil came in first in the pole vault with a mark of 3.35m (10'11.75'').
The long jump saw the Racers take the top-three positions. Brimlett  finished first with a mark of 5.89m (19'4''). Main finished second with a mark of 5.44m (17'10.25'') and Woerner finished third with a mark of 5.36m (17'7'').
The Racers took command of the shot put, with Destiny Carey, Christina Meinhardt, Jewel Wagner and Main taking the top-four spots. Carey came in first with a mark of 12.73m (41'9.25''). Meinhardt came in second with a mark of 11.99m (39'4''). Wagner came in third with a mark of 11.87m (38'11.5''). Main came in fourth with a mark of 9.49m (31'1.75'').
In the Javelin, Kristen Higgins placed fourth overall with a mark of 33.69m (110'6''). Tewes and Rachel Gootee placed eighth and ninth with marks of 25.45 (83'6'') and 24.74m (81'2'').
Murray State next competes in the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas., from Wednesday, March 28 – Saturday, March 31.
