After two days at the OVC Championships, the Murray State track and field team sits atop the leaderboard with 66 points, 18.5 points ahead of host Southeast Missouri.
"Today was a great continuation of yesterday," said head coach Adam Kiesler. "Aubrey [Main], Jessikha [Ribeiro], and Ashlyn [Oren] swept the multi which was amazing. We ask a lot of those three and they came through in both the multi and the high jump. We had a couple of final qualifiers we weren't expecting and again we scored what we were supposed to in other events. So far this has been an all-around team effort and we know now it is time for other to step up going into finals tomorrow"
The day started off with a bang as Aubrey Main won the heptathlon with a school record 5,012 points. Jessikha Ribeiro and Ashlyn Oren made it a clean sweep of the podium as they finished second and third, respectively. Read more about their day here.
Those three ladies were not done for the day as they all competed in the high jump, with all three earning points toward the team score. Main finished fourth with a jump of 1.69m while Ribeiro an Oren tied for fifth at 1.64m.
Anna Vollet also earned points for MSU as she finished fourth in the long jump with a personal best distance of 5.82m. She also qualified for the 100m final by running 12.22, also a personal record.
Joining her in the 100m finals will be three-time defending champion Tamdra Lawrence and Rachel Hagans, who ran 11.88 and 12.06 respectively.
In the 100m hurdles, Antoinetta Avant qualified for the finals after finishing fourth in the prelims with a personal-best time of 14.35. Dontavia Howard also set a personal record in the race with a time of 14.63.
Hilary McAdam will also be running on Saturday after qualifying in the 800m, running a time of 2:13.11. McAdam will be looking for the double 800m OVC title after winning the indoor 800m in February.
The final pair of qualifiers for the Racers are Noma Abdur-Rafia and D'Myia Thornton, who will be running in the 400m finals on Saturday after finishing seventh and eighth, respectively. JaKayla McSwain did not qualify for the finals, but did set a personal record in the race with a time of 58.11.
Emma Creviston concluded day three with the final points for the Racers as she finished seventh in the 3000m steeplechase with a personal-best time of 11:18.16.
"We are in a good spot to accomplish our goals so we need to show up tomorrow and execute," stated Kiesler.
Day three will begin tomorrow with the javelin at 11 a.m. and conclude with the 4x400 relay at about 4:15 p.m.
