Racers Set for OVC Outdoor Championships

The Murray State track and field team is set to compete at the 2019 OVC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, hosted by Southeast Missouri, from Thursday May 9 to Saturday May 11.
Following a strong second-place finish at the Indoor Championships this year, the Racers will look to win their first outdoor championship since 1992.
All three days will be streamed on ESPN+.
100m (Prelims – Friday 5 p.m., Finals – Saturday 1:55 p.m)
After being named OVC Track Athlete of the Year, 3-time defending 100m champion Tamdra Lawrence will be the favorite in this event as her time of 11.34 she ran at Memphis was the fastest time in the conference this season as well as 19th fastest in the East Region and 30th fastest in the nation. Â Rachel Hagans is seeded second and Daijah White is seeded fifth while Anna Vollet is seeded 16th.
200m (Prelims – Thursday 6:15 p.m., Finals – Saturday 2:45 p.m.)
Lawrence is the favorite in the 200m as well as her time of 23.91 set at Texas State is the best in the OVC. She will be looking for her second title in this event as she also won as a freshman in 2016. White, Hagans and Norma Abdur-Rafia are seeded eighth, 10th, and 12th, respectively.
400m (Prelims – Friday 5:35 p.m.; Finals – Saturday 1:35 p.m.)
The Racers will have three runners in the 400m, led by D'Myia Thornton, who is seeded sixth. JaKayla McSwain is seeded 10th and Abdur-Rafia is seeded 12th.
800m (Prelims – Friday 6:35 p.m.; Finals Saturday 2:10 p.m.)
Hilary McAdam is one of the favorites in the 800m as her time of 2:11.05 she set at the Drake Relays is the second-best time in the OVC this season.
10,000m (Finals – Thursday 6:45 p.m.)
Amanda Parker is the only Racer in the 10K this year. It will be the first time in her career she will compete in the 10,000m.
100m Hurdles (Prelims – Friday 5 p.m.; Finals – Saturday 1:15 p.m.)
The Racers will have three competitors in the 100m hurdles led by Alayna Stalter and Antoinetta Avant, who are seeded eighth and ninth, respectively. Dontavia Howard will also run and is seeded 12th.
400m Hurdles (Prelims – Thursday 5:45 p.m.; Finals – Saturday 2:30 p.m.)
Jocelyn Payne will be the lone Racer in the 400m hurdles. She is seeded 15th with a time of 1:06.13.
3000m Steeplechase (Finals – Friday 7:15 p.m.)
Ida Mutai leads a pack of three Racers in the 3000m steeplechase. Her time 11:32.96 is good enough for the seventh seed while Emma Creviston and Katelyn Gilbert are 10th and 11th, respectively.
4x100 Relay and 4x400 Relay (Finals - Saturday 12:30 p.m. and 4:15 p.m.)
The Racer relay teams are strong contenders in both races as they are seeded second in the 4x100 and third in the 4x400.
High Jump (Finals – Friday 2:30 p.m.)
Aubrey Main leads the Racers in the high jump as the fifth seed. OVC Indoor Freshman of the Year Ashlyn Oren will look to make her mark outdoors as she is seeded seventh while Jessikha Ribeiro is 12th.
Long Jump (Finals – Friday 5 p.m.)
Oren and Ribeiro lead the Racers in the high jump as the fifth and 11th see, respectively. Eleri Gesler and Anna Vollet will also compete in the event.
Triple Jump (Finals – Saturday 11 a.m.)
Avant and Gesler will compete in the triple jump for the Racers. Avant is seeded ninth while Gesler is 15th.
Pole Vault (Finals – Thursday 5:30 p.m.)
Brooke Misukonis rewrote the Murray State record books this season as she set a new school record with a vault of 3.70m, second-best in the OVC this year. This is one of the deeper events for the Racers as Emily Heil, Shannon Riley, and Jessie Kinder will also be competing.
Shot Put (Finals – Saturday 2 p.m.)
Destiny Carey enters the shot put as one of the favorites as she is seeded second with a distance of 14.54m.
Discus (Finals – Friday 5 p.m.)
Hannah Johnson is the lone Racer in the discus where she is seeded tenth.
Hammer (Finals – Thursday 12:30 p.m.)
Rachel Gootee, Carey, and Ashton Crowe will look to get the Racers off to a strong start when the first medals are awarded for the hammer throw. Gootee is seeded seventh, Carey is 11th, and Crowe is 19th.
Javelin (Finals – Saturday 11 a.m.)
The Racers will have three competitors in the javelin led by Alexus Groom, who is seeded ninth. Joy Sparks is seeded 11th while Crowe is 18th.
Heptathlon (Thursday and Friday Morning)
Aubrey Main is the top seed in the heptathlon with a score 4880, the 23rd-best score in the East region. Ashlyn Oren and Jessikha Ribeiro are also competing, seeded fifth and sixth, respectively.
