Racers Put Home Win Streak On The Line Against Morehead State
The Murray State Racers (4-4, 1-2) host the Morehead State Eagles (4-6, 1-2) in a Saturday game for their Ohio Valley Conference home opener at 4 p.m. at the CFSB Center in Murray, Kentucky. The Racers will try to extend their home winning streak at The Bank, which currently stands at 25. The Racers are coming off a Wednesday 68-55 loss at Belmont and the Eagles are playing for the first time since a 66-51 defeat at Clemson (Dec. 21). The Racers and Eagles are meeting for the 166th time, the second longest running series in program history, behind only the 179 games MSU has played against Tennessee Tech. The Racers have won 13 straight games at home against Morehead State since the last time the Eagles won at the CFSB Center in 2003. The Racers have won the last five in the series. Murray State's second game this season with the Eagles is at Johnson Arena in Morehead, Ky. on Feb. 4.
Friendly Confines - Racers Enjoy Playing At The Bank
The Racers' 25 game win streak at home is currently the fifth-longest streak in NCAA D-I and fourth longest streak in program history. MSU's 47 game home streak from 1996-00 was the longest in the nation when it was halted in a loss to Southeast Missouri and it still is the record for the Racers. An amazing 1,149 days passed from the time the streak started to the day it ended, or three years, one month and 24 days. Gonzaga has the longest streak in the nation currently having won 43 in a row, followed by Liberty (29), Prairie View (27) and Oregon (26). The Racers are 68-11 at home in the Coach Matt McMahon era. With a two week, four game road trip coming up after the Morehead State game, the Racers won't play on their home court until they host Jacksonville State and Tennessee Tech (Jan. 21 & 23).
Racers Work On Completing The Puzzle
Through eight games, the Racers at home are much different from the Racers on the road. MSU is 4-0 at home and now 0-4 on the road after dropping a Wednesday game at Belmont. MSU held the Bruins to under 50 percent shooting (27-60), but were unsuccessful to win as they had been in 48 of the previous 62 games when accomplishing this goal. The Racers lost the rebound battle at Belmont 32-27 and are 0-4 when they don't win the rebound stat this season, but 4-0 when they do. In the last three seasons, the Racers are 42-6 and they win the rebound battle. At home, the Racers are shooting 176 points better than on the road, but that is skewed by the odd 173-95 win over Greenville in the season opener. Eliminate the Greenville game and the Racers are still hitting 57 percent at home and holding opponents to 34 percent. The next time the Racers go out on the road next week to Eastern Illinois and SIUE, they hope to take some of that home confidence with them.
