Murray State heads to Huntington, West Virginia to compete in the Thundering Herd Invite.

Murray State women's track & field returns to action this weekend competing at the Thundering Hurd Invite in Huntington, West Virginia. The meet is scheduled for Saturday on the Jeff Small Track at the Chris Cline Athletic Complex at Marshall University.

"I'm excited their allowing us to come and compete. My expectation is to see high energy, high effort," said Head Coach Adam Kiesler.

MEET INFO
The Thundering Herd Invite meet begins at 11 a.m. and is a quad meet, with the Racers set to compete against Marshall, Ohio and WVU. Click here for a schedule of events.

LAST TIME OUT
The Racers opened their 2021 track & field campaign at the Boo Rogers Combine Events. Senior Jessikha Ribeiro finished fifth with 3117 points in the pentathlon. Sophomore Meghan Fletcher won the high jump event.

FRESH STARTS
For majority of the women's track & field team, it will be their first time competing since last season. Junior pole vaulter Brooke Misukonis is coming off a second place finish at the OVC Indoor Championships a season ago.

In the sprints, senior Jumyia Denning and sophomore Kenia Seals are looking to improve upon last year. Mid-distancers freshman Kayla Bell and sophomores LaMiah Campbell and Amirr Evans have been working very hard and are ready to compete.

"With everybody we're watching their race strategy and how they compete and how they perform. Getting our warm-ups down and time management of a meet because for a lot of people it's been a year. I think that's something that we'll definitely look for in these first couple meets to make sure we iron that stuff out before we get to outdoor," said Kiesler.

NEW FACES
The Racers will feature a couple of new faces, triple jumper Jasmine Claunch from Harrodsburg, Ky., sprinter Teliyah James from Norristown, Pa. and hurdler Nia Scott from Snellville, Ga.

"We want to see where we are. We want to get those good quality reps as well as being able to compete for the first time in the year will help us for outdoor."
