Murray State Comes Home For a Pair At the CFSB Center
The Murray State Racers (8-1) bring a five-game win streak home to the CFSB Center where they have also won their last five games. The Racers host the Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs (10-2) Wednesday at The Bank at 7 p.m., after the MSU women's team hosts North Alabama at 5 p.m.
Racers Set To Help Tornado ReliefÂ
With the recent devastation to cities in Western Kentucky happening Dec. 10, Governor Beshear has encouraged contributions in support of the victims and relief efforts, may be directed towards the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the "Team Western Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund." The Racers are also partnering with Eight Days of Hope and Journey Church to assist those that were affected by the severe weather. Murray State Athletics wants to honor all those affected and the first responders who were there for Kentucky when it needed them the most by offering free general admission tickets to both doubleheaders this week. The CFSB Center is also a place where fans can bring non-perishable food items and clothing items. A Teddy Bear toss will take place Saturday. Fans are asked to bring stuff animals to the game and after throwing them on the court, they will be given to children in need after the tornado.
Racers Win Again At Memphis in Dramatic Fashion
In 2011, the Racers were on their way to an amazing 23-0 start at the nation's final undefeated team and the 10th win in that run was at Memphis. In 2021, the Racers were back at the FedExForum (Dec. 10) and won again 74-72. But not until they erased a 14-point halftime deficit in front of a crowd of 13,607. Their comeback win represents the largest halftime deficit Murray State has overcome since they came back from down 16 at the half to win at Tennessee State on Jan. 4, 2007.
The Racers have won back-to-back non-conference road games. They also won at Illinois State 77-65 on Nov. 17. MSU's final non-conference road game is at Auburn (Dec. 22). The Racers begin Ohio Valley Conference play (Dec. 30) and (Jan. 1) at home against Southeast Missouri and Tennessee Tech.
Tevin Brown Named OVC Player of the Week
Murray State's Tevin Brown was named the Player of the Week after a vote by communications directors in the Ohio Valley Conference. He is the third MSU player that tallied four weekly awards in the 2021-22 season. Brown played all 40 minutes at Memphis and hit six 3-pointers (four in the second half). He now has 279 career 3-pointers, four away from fifth place in OVC history and he is likely to catch Joe Sibbitt (Austin Peay 1994-98) who holds the mark of 318. The Murray State record is held by hall of famer Isaiah Canaan who made 304 from 2009-13.
Tevin Brown follows teammates KJ Williams (twice OVC Player of the Week) and DJ Burns (once OVC Newcomer of the Week) who have also won weekly awards from the OVC.
As Tevin Brown chases down the MSU and OVC career record for made 3-point baskets, his ability to turn a game in MSU's favor from the 3-point line is impressive. With 100 games played in the Blue and Gold, Brown has hit at least five 3-pointers in a game 16 times, including hitting six at Memphis. In those games, MSU has won 12-of-15. Â In one stretch from Dec. 2019 to Feb. 2021, the Racers won eight-straight games when Brown hit five 3-pointers.
