Murray State women's soccer will travel to Jacksonville, Alabama on Friday for an afternoon clash with Jacksonville State. The red-hot Racers will look to remain perfect on the season after a 1-0 victory over Austin Peay in their last time out saw them improve to 5-0 in the delayed 2020 campaign. The match will be streamed live on ESPN+ with live stats available on goracers.com. Kickoff is slated for 3:00 p.m.
All-Time Series:
Friday's contest will mark the 17th meeting between the two sides, with the Racers holding a commanding 12-4-1 record in the all-time series. The Racers have lost just once in the last 12 clashes, while earning 10 wins in the process, but JSU got the best of Murray State in the most recent meeting – a 3-2 decision on the road in Jacksonville just last season. The Racers have also conceded just five goals through their last 12 matches against the Gamecocks.
A Look at the Racers:
The Racers (5-0) find themselves at the top of the OVC table with 15 points and enter Friday's match as one of the league's three unbeaten teams (Southeast Missouri and SIUE both 4-0). Murray State is outscoring opponents 12-5 through five matches on the year, and MSU's 2.4 goals per game ranks second in the OVC. The offense has also generated 90 shots so far, which tops the conference.
The Racers are fresh off a 1-0 victory over Austin Peay on Tuesday thanks to Marti Floyd's first career goal off a cross from Rebecca Kubin in the 27th minute. Floyd became the eighth different player to score for Murray State through five games on the year.
Individually, the Racers are led by senior Rebecca Kubin, whose three goals are a team-high, while her eight points (three goals, two assists) is tied for second-most in the OVC. Abby Jones leads the way in the assist column as her season total of three is also tied for second in the conference, while sophomore Lilly Strader's 17 shots are the most in the league.
Scouting Jacksonville State:
The Gamecocks (1-3) ended a three-game road trip on a high note in their last outing, stomping Eastern Kentucky by a 4-0 score line in Richmond. JSU got two goals apiece from senior Alicia Pallister and sophomore Gabriel Clarke in the victory, as they join Cynthia 2019 All-OVC selection Cynthia Bagozzi as the third player to record multiple goals on the year to lead the Gamecocks. Freshman Kylie Wells is fourth in the conference with 13 shots in the campaign. Redshirt junior goalkeeper Morgan Lerch ranks third in the OVC in goals against average with 0.98.
Notes:
· Abby Jones, who became the Racers' all-time assist leader on March 9th against UT Martin, distanced herself from the #2 spot with two more in last Friday's contest against Belmont as the junior from Powell, Ohio recorded the 23rd and 24th assists of her career.
· Kubin's goal against Belmont brought her season total to a team-best three on the year as the senior moved into a tie for fifth with Jackie Thomas (2000-03) on Murray State's all-time scoring list with 25 career goals.
· Dating back to last season, the Racers have scored a goal in ten-straight matches.
· With Jacksonville State set to move to the A-SUN next year, Friday's match will mark the final Ohio Valley Conference between the two sides.
