Murray State heads to Vanderbilt to compete at Black & Gold Invite
The Murray State women's track & field program will head to Vanderbilt's annual Black and Gold Invite in Nashville, Tennessee.
It will be a two-day meet, starting Friday, April 16 at 4:00 p.m. with the women's hammer throw and continue on Saturday, April 17. The first field event, discus, will begin at 10 a.m. with the running events getting underway at 12 p.m., starting with the 4x100m relay and finishing with the 4x400m relay at 4:50 p.m.
"After a weekend off this meet will be a great start to the rest of our season. Whenever you head down to Vanderbilt you know the competition will be great and we look forward to that. I am excited to really start seeing the work that we have put in over the last few months come to fruition. There have been glimpses at practice that the staff as well as the student-athletes look forward to putting together on meet day. The two day meet will finally allow some athletes to feel what it's like to compete on back-to-back days and that is experience we need for our championships in May," said Head Coach Adam Kiesler.
Two-weeks ago, the Racers won the team competition and saw several athletes post all-time top-10 program performances at the Joey Haines Invite at Southeast Missouri.
Through three meets this year, the Racers boast two school records and a total of 13 top-10 performances.
Murray State has swept the team relays in the previous two meets after setting program records in the 4x100m and the 4x800m at the Margaret Simmons Invite.
Murray State has two performances that rank among the top 50 in the nation after four weeks of competition. The 4x100m relay is 29th in the East Region. The team of Jumyia Denning, Teliyah James, Lucia Herrero-Yanez and Rachel Hagans broke the Murray State program and facility records with a time of 45.34.
Meghan Fletcher is 33rd in the high jump with her PR-mark of 1.73m, set at the SIUC Bill Cornell Invite.
Following the weekend, Murray State will travel to Louisville, Kentucky to compete in the Clark Wood Open on April 23-24.
