Racers Take On Tulsa In Myrtle Beach 3rd Place Game

The Murray State Racers (2-2) play their third game of the Myrtle Beach Invitational in Conway, South Carolina at the HTC Center Sunday in a 9:30 a.m. Central Time Tip. The Racers take on the Tulsa Golden Hurricane (2-2) in the third place game.

How did the two get here? The Racers knocked off Texas A&M 88-79 and Tulsa defeated Loyola 85-66. Both teams took tough losses in the semifinals as the Racers lost on a buzzer shot to UMass 71-69 and Tulsa lost a game that went down to the final seconds to Charlotte 68-65.

Tournament Notes

MSU has played Tulsa three times and have won two, including their last meeting in 2015 when the Racers won 83-62 in the NIT. That Racer team featured NBA lottery pick, Cameron Payne.
MSU's point guard, JaCobi Wood has had two big games for the Racers with 47 points on 10-of-18 from the field including 7-of-14 from the 3-point line.
The Racers' performance from the free throw line in two games is impressive. They've hit 75 percent on 40-of-53, with Wood making 20-of-21 on his own.
The downside is that MSU has given 37 offensive rebounds and are trailing in the rebound stat 43.5 to 39.5 per game.
The first three champions of the Myrtle Beach event include Central Florida (2018), Baylor (2019) and Utah State (2021). Charlotte and UMass will play for the title Sunday at noon Central Time.
The Racers' win over Texas A&M was their first over a team ranked in the AP Top-25 since they defeated Saint Mary's (CA) at home in 2012. MSU's win at Memphis last December came just a few days after the Tigers had dropped out of the poll.
