Racers Host SIUE - Look For 300th Win At The Bank
The Murray State Racers (21-2, 11-0) come home for an Ohio Valley Conference game against the SIUE Cougars (7-15, 1-8). One of the final three home games of the season, the Racers are poised to win their 300th game in the 24-season history of the CFSB Center. Tip time at "The Bank" is set for 7 p.m., after the women's game played at 5 p.m.
The Friendly Confines of The Bank
In the 24 seasons at the CFSB Center, Racer teams have kept the home court advantage they had for 44 seasons at Racer Arena from 1954-98. MSU has consistently won about 85 percent of their home games for many decades and their success in the CFSB Center continues today as the Racers have won their last 13 games here. Saturday's game with SIUE marks the 349th game at the CFSB Center where the Racers are 299-49 (.859) overall and 173-32 (.000) in OVC games. At 12-0 this season, MSU is trying for their third undefeated season. MSU's two other home seasons without a loss came under Coach Billy Kennedy (2009-10) and Coach Matt McMahon (2019-20) each time going 15-0.
Racers In The Rankings
If the Racers can win against SIUE, they certainly will look forward to Monday when they could be breaking into the national rankings. MSU Has gotten a considerable amount of attention among those getting votes in both the Associated Press Poll and USA Today Poll. After Thursday's 65-53 win at Austin Peay, Murray State was 27th in the NCAA Net and 32nd in the rankings by KenPom.com. Sean Paul has the Racers as his top pick among Mid-Major teams and in the CollegeInsider.com Mid Major Poll, the Racers moved up to third from fifth last week. MSU was 40th in Jon Rothstein's Top-45.
Brown & Williams - Future MSU Hall of Famers
Given the success the team has enjoyed and the personal performances over the last four seasons, it's obvious that Tevin Brown and KJ Williams will someday be honored inductees for the Murray State Hall of Fame. The superlatives are many, but the best thing that can be said about this dynamic duo is that they love to compete. Already members of the MSU 1000-Point Club, they have earned a spot in a more exclusive club. Brown has become the third player at MSU to score 1,500 points, grab 500 rebounds and give out 350 assists. The other two are Isaac Spencer and Glen Green. Williams is 66 points from joining Spencer and Popeye Jones as the only players to score 1,500 points and grab 800 rebounds.
Racers Eye 28th OVC Regular Season Championship
With seven games remaining, the Racers still have a lot of work to do in order to win the OVC title. Next week they hit the road for Tennessee State and Morehead State and follow with ESPNU home games against Austin Peay (Feb. 17) and Belmont (Feb. 24). The Racers also have road trips remaining to UT Martin (Feb. 19) and SEMO (Feb. 26).
The new fundraising initiative invites Racer supporters to have a lasting impact on the Murray State men's and women's basketball programs. Those interested in learning more about how you can support the Racer Basketball Legacy Fund initiative may contact Director of Development-Athletics, Taylor Mudd at (270) 809-3517 or tmudd3@murraystate.edu for more information.
