Racers Begin Final OVC Season with Morehead State

Murray State and Morehead State Clash in OVC Opener for the Final Time as Conference Foes
Murray State (13-6) baseball travels to Morehead State to take on the Eagles in a three-game series at Allen Field in Morehead, Kentucky to begin the 2022 OVC campaign. The last time the two sides met was a 13-inning thriller at the 2021 OVC Tournament in which the Racers won on a walk-off bunt.

The Racers enter the matchup after splitting a four-game series with Valparaiso last weekend. Morehead State enters the series having lost five straight including a 7-5 defeat to Kentucky on Tuesday. Murray State and Morehead State were each picked to land near the top of the league in the preseason OVC poll after being picked to finish second and third, respectively. Coach Dan Skirka's squad got off to the best start in program history after starting 8-0 and now sit at 13-6 while Morehead State sits at 7-13 on the season.

Jordan Holly has been an offensive prescence to be reckoned with for the Racers, batting .360 on the year with five doubles and nine RBIs. Fellow team captain Jake Slunder has been a catalyst at the top of the order for Murray State while batting .320 to go along with his very impressive four triples on the season.

Two-way player Jacob Pennington leads a strong Racers bullpen with a 1.40 ERA in 19.1 innings pitched this season. Southpaw Jordyn Naranjo has proved to be a huge asset for the Racers as well tossing 10.2 scoreless innings to start his 2022 campaign. Murray State currently has seven pitchers with an ERA lower than 2.90.

The Eagles enter the matchup at 7-13 after falling to Kentucky 7-5 in a single game on Tuesday.
 Preseason OVC Player of the Year Jackson Feltner leads the Eagles offensively batting .372 on the year with 19 RBIs. Feltner sports an On-Base Percentage of .451 while driving four home runs and drawing nine walks on the year.
Senior Jarrett Miller leads the pitching staff for the Eagles. Miller enters the matchup with 13 appearances and a strong 2.30 ERA with 15 strikeouts in 15.2 innings pitched in 2022.
