The Game
The Murray State women's basketball team will look to bounce back from Friday's loss when they welcome Missouri State to CFSB Center for a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m.
Last Time Out
Murray State just could not find a rhythm against Southern Illinois and fell to the Salukis, 81-73, despite four players scoring in double-digits and two notching double-doubles.
Series At A Glance
Sunday will be just the fourth meeting between the Racers and the Bears and the first since 2009. The two teams split a home-and-home series in the 1980's, with each winning on its home court. The two MSUs did not meet again until 2009 when the Bears topped the Racers in Springfield.
Scouting The Bears
Like the Racers, Missouri State enters Sunday's contest at 4-3 in MVC play after a loss on Friday night. The Bears fell to Belmont in their last outing, 75-66, in Nashville.
Aniya Thomas currently leads the Bears in scoring with 14.2 points per game, while Kennedy Taylor and Sydney Thomas follow 11.6 and 11.0, respectively. On the boards, Taylor leads Missouri State with 8.3 rebounds per game.
Missouri State currently averages 66.2 points per game on 39.4-percent shooting with 43.7 rebounds per game. Meanwhile, the Bears' opponents are averaging 64.8 points per game on 41.0-percent shooting with 32.8 rebounds per game.
A Win Would...
A win Sunday would prevent the Racers from suffering back-to-back losses at home for the first time this season.
A Double Double-Double
For the first time this season, two Racers notched double-doubles in the same game, Friday against SIU. Katelyn Young had 26 points and15 rebounds against the Salukis, while Hannah McKay finished the night with 16 and 10. Young now has six double-doubles on the year with McKay following at three.
Connect Four
For the second time this season, four Racers reached double-digits Friday. Young led Murray State with 26, while McKay followed with 16, Macey Turley with 11 and Bria Sanders-Woods with 10. The only other time four or more Racers scored 10-plus points was in the season opener against Christian Brothers.
Board Crashers
The duo of Katelyn Young and Hannah McKay have stepped up their rebounding game since beginning MVC play this season. In non-conference games, Young averaged 7.3 rebounds per game, while McKay averaged 4.7. Since the start of Valley play, has almost doubled her per game output, increasing her average by 4.6 boards per game to 9.3, while Young has increased by 1.7 rebounds per game to 9.0.
