Racers Secure Big Win Over Panthers At Home

Hailey Cole scores two goals in the first half in the 4-1 route over Northern Iowa.
The Murray State women's soccer team showed a dominant performance in a 4-1 win over UNI on Thursday at Cutchin Field.
"I'm really happy," head coach Matt Lodge said. "I think we've played well the last few games, two tough games on the road with UIC and Valpo, but the performance was well. So today I felt like we're just scratching the surface of almost everything we're capable of. A lot came together today."
Mary Hardy scored her fourth goal of the season in the eighth minute of the match, heading the ball in the top left corner on a corner serve from Hailey Cole. Cole would go on to add two more goals of her own before the end of the half in the 14th and 29th minute, each of them on free kicks.
With just over five minutes played in the second half, Megan Wilson would score her first career goal in the 51st minute on a cross pass from the right side from Sydney Etter. Etter picked up her second assist of the season and fourth of her career.
"Some massive performances," Lodge added. "Meg Wilson, first career goal and first start up front. She paid us back with a fantastic goal. All around--our back four, our midfield—it was just a gutsy performance on a nice, rainy day. It was a perfect game for some [soccer]. I thought we passed the ball well, we worked hard."
The Racers outshot Northern Iowa 20-9 in the match, holding the Panthers to just two shots in the final 45 minutes. That marks the lowest number of shots allowed in a half for Murray State and the most shots taken by the Blue and Gold this season.
Cole took seven shots total against UNI, putting two of them on goal and adding an assist. Hardy, Wilson and Morgan Parker each added two shots of their own.
Keeper Griselda Revolorio notched her first career win in goal, recording four saves on 10 shots faced.
"Disappointed to concede," Lodge said. "It was a phenomenal strike by the UNI player, but it's one of those where hopefully this kickstarts with now. We've got to make it to the tourney first, so hopefully we keep getting hot as we head into tournament play."
Murray State will head to Normal, Illinois to take on Illinois State on Sunday, October 8 at 1 p.m. CT.
