Game Day Story Lines

The Racers opened their 100th season of collegiate basketball and their 27th in the CFSB Center Monday with a 113-37 win over Bethel (TN).
The Racers & Panthers are meeting for the second time and first since 2003.
In 2003, Mick Cronin was a rookie head coach in Murray and led the Racers to the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament championship where the Racers played Illinois in the NCAA Tournament.
The 2024-25 season is Steve Prohm's 26th overall in college basketball and 13th as the head coach at Murray State.
Prohm's first run at MSU was from 2011-15 and after coaching for six seasons at Iowa State from 2015-21, he returned to Murray in 2022 to lead the program into the Missouri Valley Conference.
After being predicted for eighth and seventh place finishes, the Racers were picked third in the MVC Preseason Poll this preseason and saw seniors Nick Ellington and JaCobi Wood each receive All-MVC honors.
This preseason, the Racers had the highest ranking in The Valley according to ESPN's Power Index (102), one spot ahead of Bradley (103). at
KenPom.com had the Racers No. 113, behind Bradley at No. 92.
The Racers have added experience to their 2024-25 roster in Terence Harcum (App State), Kylen Milton (Pine Bluff), AJ Ferguson (Southern Illinois) and KyeRon Lindsay (Texas Tech).
After the game against Pittsburgh, the Racers play at Middle Tennessee (Nov. 16) before hosting Maryland Eastern Shore (Nov. 20).
The recently announced renovation of MSU's home, the CFSB Center, will transform the arena that opened under Coach Tevester Anderson in the fall of 1998.
The project is now in the early planning stages.
