Valiant Racers Push Sycamores In Final Regular Season Game

The Racers took the MVC champion Indiana State to the final minutes before falling 89-77 in Terre Haute
The Murray State Racers played a hard-fought game to wrap up the 2023-24 regular season in an 89-77 loss to the Indiana State Sycamores at Hulman Center in Terre Haute.

Quincy Anderson scored 25 points on 10-of-19 from the field, including 3-of-5 from the 3-point line, while Rob Perry added 14 and Alden Applewhite 13.

Trailing by 12 points at halftime, the Racers kept coming back and made their final run with 4:17 left when they cut the Sycamore's lead to 77-71 on back-to-back baskets by Anderson and JaCobi Wood. MSU was never able to get any closer against the Sycamores.

With the 31-game regular season in the books, the Racers (12-19) finished 9-11 in The Missouri Valley Conference.

Game Notes
- Quincy Anderson achieved the 1,500-point mark in his career between the Racers and Minnesota State with his final basket of the first half wen through the net, a driving layup at 3:05.
- Anderson now has 1,514 points in his 136 career games for a per-game average of 11.1ppg.
- Anderson has also hit a 3-point basket in 10-straight games, the best streak for the Racers this season.
- Ellington and Wood have started every game this season and today made their 31st start together in Terre Haute.
- After finishing seventh at 11-9 a year ago in The Valley, the Racers posted an eighth-place finish in 2023-24 at 9-11.
- MSU is 20-20 in their first two seasons in The Valley
- The Racers ended up playing in front of three of the top-10 crowds in The Valley this season including today's game at the Hulman Center in front of 8,412.
- Other big crowds that watched the Racers included their game at Evansville (Jan. 6) when 7,928 attended at the Ford Center and at home against Southern Illinois (Jan. 27) when 6.757 watched the game at the CFSB Center.
- The largest crowd of the MVC season happened in Peoria, Illinois (Feb. 24) when Illinois State took on Bradley at Carver Arena with a crowd of 9,201.
- The Enterprise Center is set to host the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Basketball Tournament which will be staged in the Gateway City for a 34th consecutive year.
- This will be the Racers' second go at Arch Madness after they went 1-1 in 2023 with a 78-50 win over Valparaiso and a 72-64 loss to champion Drake Bulldogs.
- Sunday night the bracket for Arch Madness was nearly set with champion Indiana State as the No. 1 seed, with Drake and Bradley as No. 2 & 3. A tiebreaker will have to decide the No. 4 & 5 seed as UNI and Belmont are tied. The MVC tiebreaker procedure calls for Monday's official NCAA Net Rankings to make the determination.
- The Racers are set at No. 8 and will face the Missouri State Bears at the No. 9 position in a Thursday game in the Enterprise Center.
- The 12:07 p.m. CT start will be the first game played in Arch Madness with the winner facing the top-seeded Sycamores on Friday at the same time.
