Racers Complete Opening Day At MVC Outdoor Championships

Jenna Pauly leads the heptathlon after Day 1 in Terre Haute, Indiana.
The Racers showed a strong start on the first day of the Missouri Valley Outdoor Conference Championships on Friday at the Gibson Track and Field Complex in Terre Haute, Indiana.
Jenna Pauly highlighted the day with four top-three finishes in the first four events of the women's heptathlon. The senior saw a first-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles, second-place finishes in the high jump and shot put and finished third in the 200-meter.
Pauly set new personal bests with a time of 13.87 in the 100-meter hurdles and a distance of 12.20 meters in the shot put. She leads the multi event by 213 points over teammate Meghan Fletcher.
Tayla Tootle was the first to score for the Racers with a sixth-place finish in the pole vault, giving Murray State three points to start the conference meet. She recorded a new personal best of 3.78 meters on her second attempt.
Alexis Meloche and Alba Perez Sanz also scored for the Racers in the javelin throw. Perez Sanz bested her PR with 40.60 meters on her first attempt of the day and finished seventh to give MSU an additional two points. Meloche finished among the top eight to give the Racers six total points for the day.
Chelby Melvin and Anouk Krause-Jentsch both qualified in the 400-meter hurdles for the finals that takes place on Sunday, May 12. Melvin leads the field with a time of 59.95 and Krause-Jentsch turned in the fourth-best time of 1:01.46.
Faith Bostick's time of 24.04 in the 200-meter was the second-fastest time of the day in the event, qualifying her to compete in the event finals on Sunday.
Breanna Day, Andrea Segovia and Jaylea Hooten were also among the list of Racers to set a new personal best on Friday. Day ran a time of 38:38.97 in the 10,000-meter, while Segovia (25.94) and Hooten (27.63) recorded new bests in the 200-meter.
The conference championships continue on Saturday, May 11 at the Gibson Track and Field Complex with the long jump of the women's heptathlon set to start at 9:30 a.m. CT.
