The duo had a big week in Murray State wins over Drake and Valparaiso
Murray State's Fred King was named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week and Roman Domon won the MVC Freshman of the Week honor, as announced by the league office in St. Louis.
Â
Out of Mangrove Cay, Bahamas, King scored a 17.5 points average on 53 percent shooting, hauled in 16 rebounds and blocked six shots as the Racers began play in The Valley 2-0. King's 16 points and 11 rebounds against Drake was his second double-double at MSU.
Â
Currently, the senior King is first in the MVC in rebounding (8.2rpg), second in blocked shots (23) and 13th in scoring (13.0ppg),
Â
From Amiens, France, Domon poured in 14.5 points per game while confounding opponents with his ability to get to the free throw line where was 18-of-22 for 81 percent. He notched a career-high 20 points in the Racers' Sunday win at Valparaiso.
Â
Domon, who was also named MVC Freshman of the Week on Dec. 1, is one of only 24 freshman nationally that are scoring 10 points and grabbing five rebounds per game. Among MVC freshmen, Domon is second in points per game (12.7) and second in rebounds (5.2).
Â
The Racers now have five MVC weekly awards so far this season including Javon Jackson as MVC Player of the Week (Nov. 7) and Layne Taylor who was MVC Newcomer of the Week (Dec. 15).
Â
Murray State is 2-0 in MVC play and are back in action Monday (Dec. 29) when they host the Southern Illinois Salukis at the CFSB Center. Tip time is 6 p.m. in Murray, Kentucky.
