Racers Drop MVC Opener to Evansville

Murray State falls to the Purple Aces in game one of MVC play
The Murray State Baseball team, (13-5, 0-1 MVC), fell to Evansville, (6-15, 1-0 MVC), Friday afternoon in their first game of Missouri Valley Conference play at Johnny Reagan Field.
The Racers got out to an early lead in the bottom of the third inning, thanks to a two RBI double by Will Vierling to make it 2-0 Murray State. Vierling later scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-0 Racers.
Evansville tallied a run in the fourth to make 3-1 and tied the game in the top of the fifth on a Cal McGinnis two RBI double and took the lead on a Brodie Peart RBI ground out.
The Purple Aces added two more runs in the seventh to make it 6-3.
The Racers grabbed a run in each of the final two innings but came up short 6-5.
Murray State moves to 13-5 on the season. The two teams will conclude their opening series of MVC play Saturday with a doubleheader at Johnny Reagan Field. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 12 p.m.Â

- Dustin Mercer and Will Vierling extended their season on base streaks to 18 and 15 games respectively on Friday.
- Carson Garner hit a ninth inning solo home run which places him in a tie with Wes Cunningham for 6th place all time in Racers history with 35 career home runs.
- Luke Mistone tallied two hits in the contest and leads the Racers in batting average with a .388Â clip.
