The Racers & Redhawks split their season two-game series

The Murray State Racers dropped an 11-3 game Tuesday to the Southeast Missouri Redhawks at Capaha Field in Cape Girardeau, as the teams split their two-game season series with the home team winning once.

The Racers (30-11) sit in second place at 12-6 in the Missouri Valley Conference and host the Southern Illinois Salukis at Johnny Reagan Field on MSU Baseball Alumni Weekend with game one Friday at 5 p.m.

The game got off to a bad start for the Racers when four walks and a hit batter in the first inning set the stage for the Redhawks to plate seven runs. The Racers got on the board in the top of the fifth on a three-run homer by Jonathan Hogart to make it a 7-3 SEMO lead and it tied him for the team lead with Carson Garner, each with 13 home runs.

Preston Chaudoin was the third pitcher of the game for the Racers and held the Redhawks with three effective no-hit innings. SEMO tacked on an additional run in the seventh and three in the eighth to finish the day's scoring.

Game Notes

Hogart collected his 23^rd double of the season in the 00^th to increase his MVC-leading total in 2025.
He is now second for doubles in a single season at MSU and is chasing the all-time record is 29 by Davis Sims in 2018.
Hogart leads the Racers with 21 multiple-hit games, Dustin Mercer is second with 18.
Hogart has a hit-streak of 11 games after the SEMO game.
Mercer had the longest hit streak of the season for the Racers at 13.
Dom Decker extended his team-leading on-base streak that is now 24 games.
Carson Garner didn't draw a walk at SEMO, but still has 45 in 2025 and leads the MVC.
Garner is taking aim at the MSU single season walks record that was set in 1973 by Jack Perconte at 58.
Garner could become the fifth Racer to get to 50 walks in a season and be the first since Grant Wood who had 50 in 2018.
Chaudoin kept the Racers in the game with three innings of no-hit work with a pair of strike outs and walks.
The Racers were 15-3 in the month of April.
SEMO leads the all-time series 72-63-1 and teams have split the last six meetings.
The weekend marks MSU Baseball Alumni Weekend with the Southern Illinois Salukis coming to Murray. Festivities include honoring new MSU Hall of Famer, Daniel Calhoun, the 1975 NCAA Team and Johnny Reagan Day.
