Halli Poock scored a career high 38 points as Murray State pulls off comeback win in Chicago
Halli Poock scored a career-high 38 points to lead Murray State to a 78-76 victory over UIC on Thursday night at Credit Union 1 Arena. Trailing by one with 1.5 seconds remaining in the game, Poock was fouled on a last-second three point attempt and sank all three free throws to seal the win.
Poock's record-breaking performance came on 12-of-20 shooting, including three 3-pointers and an 11-of-15 effort from the free-throw line. The junior guard added four assists and a steal in 36 minutes of action. Her previous career high was 34 points.
The Racers (27-3, 18-1 MVC) overcame a balanced attack from the Flames in a game that featured 10 ties and 10 lead changes. Haven Ford contributed 13 points, while Sharnecce Currie-Jelks anchored the interior with a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double.
UIC was led by Julia Coleman, who scored a team-high 32 points on 15-of-20 shooting. Jessica Carrothers had a strong performance for the Flames, finishing with 27 points and 10 assists.
Murray State led 18-15 after the first quarter and the game settled at a 37-37 halftime tie. The Racers finished the game shooting 50.9 percent from the field and capitalized on 18 second-half free throws to secure the road win.
